Introducing The Drooling Reset — Private Program for Parkinson's Drooling

By Robert Smith, M.S., CCC-SLP ·

Today I'm putting a name on something I've been building and refining in clinical practice for years: The Drooling Reset — Private Program. The free guide, The Drooling Reset, stays free. The Private Program is the paid version of the same work.

It's a structured, behavioral program for drooling in Parkinson's disease. It is education, not therapy or medical treatment. And it exists because of one clinical fact that almost nobody acts on.

Drooling is not a saliva problem.

People with Parkinson's don't make too much saliva. In most cases they make the same amount as everyone else — or less. The problem is clearance. The automatic swallow that quietly clears saliva all day, hundreds of times, stops initiating often enough. Saliva doesn't overflow because there's too much of it. It overflows because it isn't being cleared.

This isn't my discovery. The mechanism has been in the research literature for years. What's been missing is a program built around it that people actually complete.

Why the standard treatments disappoint

Botox, medications, hard candy, gum, wiping — every common approach either targets the wrong problem (reducing saliva instead of restoring clearance) or asks for something the brain can't sustain (remembering to swallow all day on willpower).

The real-world result of any treatment is efficacy times adherence. A technique that works perfectly but that nobody keeps doing produces nothing. Most drooling advice fails on the second number, not the first.

What the Private Program does differently

The Private Program restores consistent swallow initiation using a method the brain can't habituate to. It's built on a simple principle from motor learning: if a person can swallow sometimes, the ability is intact. You don't need to build strength. You need to rebuild consistent use.

Three calls. Teach the curriculum, then follow up twice to lock it in. That's the entire delivery model, because a program designed around how people actually live is the only kind that keeps working after the appointment ends.

It's a resolution approach, not a management approach. Bibs, wiping, and suction manage the symptom. The Private Program targets the mechanism that causes it.

Who this is for

People with Parkinson's who've been told drooling is just something to live with — and the caregivers and clinicians who suspect that isn't true.

If that's you, you can learn the mechanism for free on my YouTube channel, or reach out about working with me directly here at everydayslp.org.

Drooling can be fixed. Now the fix has a name.
